17 Travel Hacks

I’m always searching for ways to save money on my next vacation and ways to make travel more convenient.

Below Are Some Of The Best Travel Hacks:

#1. Have Flexible Travel Dates

Flight and hotel rates fluctuate widely based on seasonality and the day of the week. Travelers that are flexible with their itinerary can save a lot on airfare and lodging. If you can, plan your trip for the shoulder seasons when rates tend to be more reasonable.

#2. Get To Know Your Private Brower Mode

Make sure you are in private browsing mode before booking any flights or hotels online. When you search for a flight, hotel, or car rental online, many travel sites will remember your computer and display rates that are more than they actually are. Avoid this and still get the greatest prices by switching to private browsing mode.

#3. Book Your Travel Separately

Package offers for airfare and lodging can be found on many online travel agencies, but they may not always be the best option. You may typically discover lower prices and save money by booking your flights and hotels separately.

#4. Get a Travel Rewards Credit Card

I used to travel often and it only made sense to get a credit card to help me rack up points to earn free flights, hotel stays, and even discounts on rental cars.

Below Are Some Great Travel Rewards Credit Cards:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred Rewards Card
  • Capital One Venture Card
  • American Express Gold Card

#5. Check Discount Airlines

There are many discount airlines to choose from but some of the most popular are Southwest Airlines and Jet Blue. If you don’t mind not getting all the bells and whistles on your flights you can save a lot of money.

Below Are Other Discount Airlines:

  • Spirit Airlines – You get budget faires that are cheap but you may pay extra for seating location and luggage.
  • Frontier Airlines – It’s very similar to Spirit Airlines low prices flights but you get charged for your carry-on.
  • Allegiant Air – I’ve Found Amazing Deals Here but… but the airports are usually remote destinations.

#6. Bring Bottled Water

It’s important to stay hydrated while traveling. Sometimes it can be a while before you find a place to get water. And staying hydrated can help increase your energy levels too.

#7. Bring Snacks

Travel can make you hungry I’m not sure why that is but going on long trips you may not know how long it will be till you can get your next meal. That’s why I like to bring snacks with me. There are some great travel snack options HERE.

#8. Use Public Transportation

I know the thought of taking a bus or other means of public transportation may sound intimidating depending on where it is you are traveling but it’s much less expensive than taking a taxi for example.

#9. Book Hostels

Hostels come in different sizes some are community hostels where you share your room with other travelers and some are solo rooms where you get your own space but it’s usually very small. And for this reason, it can save you a lot of money and if you don’t plan on staying in your room very often this can be a nice way to save money for your vacation.

Travel hacks that you may already be doing are to book your attractions ahead of time. This can save you up to 30% and even more depending on the attraction. Look for deals and coupons to add up the savings.

#11. Use The Local Currency

Another travel hack that I learned the hard way is to use the local currency instead of your credit card. When you use your credit card there are fees that quickly add up and end up costing you in the end.

#12. Use Air BnB

On the other end of the spectrum when it comes to comparing a hostel to an Air BnB is night and day. If you need more space check out AirBNB you can find a nice place to stay for a lot less money.

#13. Free Activities

Travel hacks that I always look into are any free activities that will be around when I visit. You can have a lot of fun without spending much money on your next vacation when you check into the free activities.

#14. Invest In Travel Insurance

This travel hack is not something you may think about but having travel insurance gives you peace of mind and can help you if you have lost or stolen luggage as well as many other benefits. Check to see if your insurance company can help you with this or do a quick search online.

Travel agents still exist and they are one of my favorite travel hacks.

They know of special offers, discounts, and deals that are not common to most people.

Give your travel agent a try before booking online to find out if you can save more with them.

Are Travel Hacks Worth It?

Yes, even if you don’t mind paying more for your flight you can find deals that give you an upgraded room, free flights, and even bring a guest for half off. I’ve been able to take advantage of all of that and more just by using these travel hacks.
